It's an indisputable fact that the sound track of a movie is as important as the pictures. Modern movies immerse you in the action and give you more of a sense of being there. There is a feeling that the movie is taking place around you. The pictures are two-dimensional but it's the third dimension produced by surround sound giving you and the feeling of 'space' and being in the centre of the action.

A movie soundtrack is an intricate mixture of sounds produced in a studio and designed for play back over a sophisticated array of speakers in a large theatre. When you listen to the same sound track at home you can miss huge parts of the sound track and hence miss some of the movie.

The original Lucasfilm THX system of certification and standards applies best to use in theatres and large rooms. THX has been renamed THX Ultra and to bring the total sound track into the smaller spaces of the average home, THX standards were modified to produce THX Select.

The depth, localisation and dynamic range of sound remain true to the original, even in the smaller environment of the average home. The exacting THX specifications mean that THX certified components are reliable and durable.

For Smaller Rooms
Although cinema sound has been available for home use for years now, there are a couple of things about home theatre that have held some people back from taking the plunge.

It's difficult to conceive of a home theatre system blending unobtrusively into the décor of the average lounge room, or sounding 'right' in a small space. The output of some systems is simply more suitable for big listening spaces. Another is the cost, affordability is a big factor for many people. THX Select technology is the latest refinement of THX Ultra technology.

The products are smaller and technically they are more suited to the size and listening distances of most lounge rooms. The dynamic range capability is specific for small listening rooms with the bonus of being engineered for multichannel digital audio.

The speaker dimensions have been reduced and still have the same peak sound level (105dB) as existing THX Ultra speakers. While maintaining the THX guarantee of performance, durability and reliability THX Select also stretches your discretionary dollar further. These are the most affordable of the THX products.

There is a complete range of Select components all of which are compatible with any THX Ultra components. Compatibility means that if you decide to update your home theatre system to incorporate Select technology, you can do it one component at a time.
