This is not the base home theatre system in the Sonique SAV range, you can actually option two stand-mount models as the front speakers if you prefer. But to these ears and pocket it offers excellent performance and represents outstanding value for money.
You also get the option to upgrade to enhanced 'Special Editions' of one or all models for what is a very reasonable additional cost by any standards.
The system in question comprises a SAV4MkII front speakers, SAV1 rear (surround) speakers and an SAVC1. They are physically and sonically matched and the black powder finish is durable and attractive (sometimes wood-grain vinyl can look a tad tawdry).
All speakers boast 18mm MDF cabinets, hi quality crossovers, hi-tech drivers, gold plated terminals and full magnetic shielding - not just the centre channel.
Sonique has made the SAV4MkII a slim, non-intrusive, full range floor-standing main speaker designed specially for front left and right use in home theatre systems, but equally at home producing very fine two-channel hi-fi music. Two low range drivers are matched to twin bass reflex ports. The tweeter is a robust soft dome design.
Taking up centre stage is the SAVC1 centre channel speaker, dedicated to the entire SAV range in fact. This is a neat, space saving design that fits nicely on top of a television, or below it on a stand It's also voice matched to other SAV products.
Full (and true) magnetic shielding is here and the driver array (twin woofer/midranges flanking a tweeter) is conducive to good information projection into the viewing area.
Bringing up the rear is a power house little performer, the SAV1, a speaker dedicated to rear channel operation and suite for shelf, stand or wall mounting (the latter via optional brackets). It's a two-way design aimed to generate healthy surround sonics without too much intrusion into the viewing area.
The sound is a tad bass heavy in our room, but exceptionally well balanced for the class of system. There's a solid and expansive sound stage which in two channel mode that translates as added dimension in home theatre situations. Other stand-out areas of performance include natural and effortless delivery of sound and very good detail with crisp, clear dialogue and effects.
Overall and excellent value system which performs way above its station and looks good to boot. The front speakers are slim line and excellent performers that are supported well by the other elements in the system. Make sure you look at the Special Edition option.
