Denon uses two and four times drives in the DVD-1000 to enhance the extraction rate of information from the discs it plays. It also uses a 4 Mb buffer memory to store information before passing it on for audio and provide reproduction. It's a combination of systems that's designed to improve information streaming so that pictures and sound are maximised in terms of quality.

The buffer also maintains the flow of information so that if vibrations or other data disruptions occur, the flow of information will continue and pictures and sound will be generated continuously. Plus, the buffer also virtually eliminates any lag or stutter as the laser switches between information layers on discs during play.

Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic sound processing is accomplished through
96kHz/24bit digital to analogue conversion circuitry. There's also virtual surround if you don't have a home theatre system with surround sound facilities.

Video processing is also said to be the latest technology with a 10-bit/27MHz digital-to-analogue conversion system. For further picture enhancement, proprietary technology is said to prevent spurious or cyclic visual artifacts from developing.
The unit also includes PCM circuitry for two-channel (music) applications.
This player holds a single disc and plays DVD discs, music CDs and CD-R discs.

There are a number of connection options with the DVD-1000 so that integrating the player into virtually any system or situation can be easily accomplished. There are optical and coaxial digital audio outputs (with conventional analogue backup), a composite video output an S-Video connector plus there are component video outputs. These last two on the list, particularly component videw, have the potential to really maximise video performance if they're connected to a good quality television system with the right input facilities.

Sound quality is very good, clean and detailed with bit more weight than the majority of players in this price range. Musically, the unit is as good as many stand-alone CD players. Video quality is right up there too. The buttons of the remote control were a bit small, but overall it's well laid out.

Denon's styling is pretty much conventional, but inside the DVD-1000 is a real adventurous type with nearly everything you could need or want in a circa $700 DVD player is here. The circuitry used (outside integrated types) is better then the run of the mill and there's good sense of quality about this player.
