We could get all fancy about what to recommend, but rather we'll outline the minimum equipment tally you should consider. You should have:
1 A movie and sound source product such as a hi-fi video recorder or preferably a DVD player.
2 An audio-visual receiver which must feature the Dolby Pro Logic II decoding system and Dolby Digital (AC-3) processing and you may consider DTS and THX processing .
3 Front speakers that produce off-screen effects from the movie sound track and double as hi-fi music speakers.
4 A centre channel speaker which sits above or below your television and reproduces movie
dialogue and other information.
5 Surround speakers that go at the rear and create ambient sound effects and create the sense of 'being there'.
6 A subwoofer that relays low bass sounds so explosions , jet engines and the like come across accurately.
7 A television or viewing medium which can be a large screen television or a projection
system.
Happy hunting!
